Hello -- I just pulled out the hard drive from a desktop NAS device -- these devices usually run some version of linux -- I tried to mount the
disk but there sees not to a linux style filesystem
I then scan the disk with testdisk and it to note that there was no fat fat32 exit2 .... file system ---
It it possible to examen the header and maybe set a flag/bit so it would be a standard file system?

Unfortunately this is not possible.

thanks for your reply --- I was using the tool to query the driver some more and it found that the drive was "linux raid" -- but there was just one drive in the unit ---
is "linux raid" some variant of ext?

No. ext(x) are variants of a file system.
raid is a mode of operation of at least 2 drives that can be realized in hardware or software.

The raid driver makes those drive appear as one bigger drive (except for Raid-1-mirroring).
On top of this raid level you can run different filesystems like p.e. NTFS, ext4, xfs, BTRFS etc...

Would it be possible to scan the drive trying to find any file markers? and capture that data?
