What does "load backup" do?

This is my first time using TestDisk. I've gotten as far as the partition analysis screen, and it lists all my partitions. I'm trying to decide what to do next, and I've been unable to find an explanation of what the "load backup" function does. I've searched both the Wiki and the Forum. Can someone please explain?
