test disk unable to detect correct Partition table type

#1 Post by ankit171032 »

Hello All,

I am having Seagate 2 TB External HD. Some files were copying from HD to system when my system got hanged somehow (due to seagate drive detector tool which was running in the background at the same time). So I removed it without safely ejecting it and after that when I re plugged the HD it was not detecting in Windows (Local Disk E:/ is showing with no details)

Now I am trying to use Testdisk. Its a very powerful tool. I did some sample recovery from my other devices (pendrive, hard disk) and it is working great. But for my corrupted HD it is not auto detecting correct partition table. Auto detecting is giving Xbox and sometimes None. However, when I am checking partition table for my new seagate HD it is EFI/GPT. When I am manually selecting EFI/GPT (or Intel) for my corrupted HD it is showing "No partition available" on clicking Advanced option.

Please suggest how to choose partition table correctly or if my HD is having problem with partition table how to repair it ?

Thanks

As no partition is listed in Advanced, using EFI GPT or PC Intel, try Analyse, Quick Search.
If you see your partition, set it as P(rimary). On next screen, choose Write, confirm, Quit

I tried "Analyse" option using Intel, it is displaying "Partition: Read error" and when I am clicking Quick search then it is not displaying anything and still stuck (or taking time) at same error page. Nothing happened even after 3 hours.

Please duplicate the drive with ddrescue and rerun testdisk on the duplicate.

Quick search has started. Now it is analyzing cylinder.

In 2.5 hours only 2/1907728 process finished occurring at a very slow speed.

This is also showing "Read error at 1/1/1 (lba=2080)"

Should I duplicate or wait for its finish. With this speed, it will take huge amount of time to finish.

Please suggest

That's what it's supposed to do.
And it focuses on one posting.

The simple fact is:

If you are asking me for advice, ignoring it, doing something else and asking me again
why should I bother responding?
