Image file creation very slow (~270 days)

#1 Post by FredBartlett »

I successfully analysed a disk and am now writing an image file for PhotoRec.

The first half or so (54.18%; 1.5 TB) took about 12 hours, which seemed reasonable.

The process has now slowed (for the past 3-4 hours) to ~60 kb/sec, or 270 days for the remainder of the 3 TB disk.

The bad 3TB disk is connected via USB2; the image is being written via SATA to a 6 TB disk.

Should I start over? Or will the image writing speed back up eventually?

Thanks for your attention,
Fred

If the copy is still very slow, try using ddrescue instead.
There is a chapter about it in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf
Note that it's quite common to need one week to clone a damaged disk.
Good luck
