Hi,

i have an hard disk that has a partition with a Windows 7 installation (a NTFS partition) that was formatted and i need to recover it. This hard disk has not be used after the format and i hope to recover the lost partition :)

I’ve created an image with ddrescue to avoid any other wearing on it and i’m using that image to experiment with testdisk.

Here is after a deep scan:

I suspect that the partition i want to recover is the third one (because the second one has no file in it, listed with P option).

The problem is that using the P option "List files" show me this error.

I am missing something, are there any other steps?

Thanks for all the help!

Do you have deleted and recreated an NTFS partition ? Or do you reformat the partition ?
If you have reformated the partition, the partition table is unchanged, so use PhotoRec to recover your data.
Be careful to store the files on another disk to avoid overwriting the lost data.
Unfortunately it will not recover the original filenames.
