Getting a lot of Cylinder/Head mismatch warnings

#1 Post by Mechanica »

Hey there,
I'm trying to recover some missing partitions on a GPT thumbstick and running into issues. I find the missing partitions which have been set to D, set them to P, then go to write. TestDisk then gives me a unable to write error with no explanation and then kicks me back out into the main menu. The weird thing I'm seeing during analysis is that I get a bunch of these

Code: Select all

Warning: number of heads/cylinder mismatches 255 (NTFS) != 1 (HD)
lines. They stand out to me because in other people's posts on the subject it's usually something like

Code: Select all

256 (NTFS) != 128
Is what I'm seeing normal or do I need to change my geometry settings or something? I'm pretty hazy on proper disk geometry.

Thank you,
-M.

Ignore the warnings.
Disable your antivirus and try again to rewrite the partition table.

Thank you so much for the reply. Unfortunately I have no antivirus that I'm aware of, as I'm on macOS. Something I should disable here?
