"Read error at..." trying to recover a lost partition

#1 Post by Runciter »

Hi,

I have a Seagate 3T external hard disk that got slower over time. Trying to fix it I think I accidentally deleted the partition. Possibly the disc also has fault sectors.

Testdisk detect de correct size:

Note: it take few minutes to change between screens!

It show "Partition: read error" but allow me to make a quick search:

But few minutes later:

Any help is welcome!

There are bad sectors. You should clone the disk usng ddrescue to a new empty disk as described in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf
Once it's done, remove the original disk and try to recover your data from the clone.
