File System Looking Good BUT FOLDERS EMPTY

#1 Post by sju1hct »

Hi!
Somehow, my External SEAGATE REPLICA 2TB HD is showing only empty directories... All the Directory structure appears to be intact, but whe going to any of the folders theres ONLY a THUMBS.DB file

It appears the data is there because the tools like chkdsk and TESTDISK indicate there are just some 9GB of available space and thats aboout the correct available space BEFORE this issue started. I don not know what happened here... Maybe a virus or something like that.

IS THERE ANY IDEAS OF TOOLS THAT I CAN TRY RO RECOVER THAT IMPORTANT DATA???

You can try to run Testdisk to see if Testdisk enables you looking inside those folders. If this is the case you can use Testdisk to copy their content to another drive.

You might as well run smartmontools and post a log file here. Maybe you have defective sectors.
