2TB External Hard Drive Problem

#1 Post by carlosacmstg »

Hello,

Yesterday I was sending a larger folder with photos into my External Hard Drive when the cable disconnected accidentaly. My Windows crashed and I needed to reboot the laptop.

After that incident my computer only recognizes that particular External Hard Drive by "E:", cannot give me any information, wouldn't even appear on my Device Manager. Whenever I tried to access the corrupted disk my laptop would just crash, I cannot even shut down my laptop when my External Hard Drive is connected to it.

I found TestDisk yesterday and after a while I was able to start analysing the disk. However after 4/5 hours I was not even at 1% so I just gave up because I didn't want to stress the disk.

Do you think there's anything I can do to recover the files I had in the disk? They are not worth spending hundreds of dollars for but they hold value to me because I have several photos that are very dear to me.

Thank you in advance for your help,

CS.

As you don't want to stress the drive - for a particular reason? - you can duplicate the drive as described in the manual and run Testdisk on the duplicate. You can post the log file here.
