help me recover the data on my 3tb hard drive no longer recognised by windows resources photorec hangs at 22% while

#1 Post by avchd »

hello everyone, i need your support to solve a problem for data recovery of a toshiba 3tb sata hard drive,
see https://ibb.co/ZgnVw7q
which after the breakage of a usb dock station was no longer visible within the computer resources but only in the bios and within the disk management control panel.
see here:

https://ibb.co/ZSk2w37
https://ibb.co/WsqhNMx
https://ibb.co/TBKRc86
https://ibb.co/kS4jRmN
https://ibb.co/nfckSTY
https://ibb.co/6HfZyJB
https://ibb.co/4tfmwYd
https://ibb.co/TcJM6tq

to tell the truth the disks in the same situation are three all of the same type.
initially i used a paid software stellar recovery that to back up
the entire contents of the disk took 77 hours apparently in the destination disk of the backup a new hard disk of 3 tb the size of the files seemed to assume a proper recovery of the files contained in particular photographs and videos to which I care very much.
for the photos we are talking about jpeg files and raw orf olympus format while the video mov and mp4 files.
The very unpleasant surprise was when I realized that many of these files were no longer viewable.
were no longer 'viewable see black screen and written file format is not recognized.
I can assure you that more than half of the files are not viewable, you can not imagine my disappointment.
Informing me on various forums of computer technology and 'came out the name of the software
testdisk/qphoto rec of which I have read of the really exceptional comments.
and so I launched photorec in graphical mode and it started very fast and I could verify the correct display of the files inside the hard disk of bestination (backup).
it seemed too good this thing in fact I noticed a progressive slowdown up to
to arrive at 22% as shown in the attached video see:

https://vimeo.com/529460082

a very curious thing was this that in the verification of files I saw an infinity of small files like icons probably preview with size 160 x120 pixels
that I do not understand absolutely how they can be created ...?
maybe it turns out that photorec created them

seeing the stalemate I stopped the procedure.
I could use testdisk and select the type of files to recover, but as an alternative
just yesterday i tried to run testdik in dos mode
and here I attach the screenshots that I found at the end of the verification operations

for me it is of paramount importance not to risk anything before making the backup and recovery of my files and then repair the data structure of the hard disk in such a way as to make it visible and usable within the computer resources.
I rely on your experience and if someone of you has happened the same thing and how did you solve it?
suggest me the best solution.
I am also available to your intervention from a remote location using for example
the teamviewer software.
thank you very much for your help and support.

so a friend of mine suggests me

Hi, I don't know Photorec. I recommended Testdisk, by CG Security. I wrote you this:

"I can tell you to extract the Testdisk, you will find it in a folder, then, run the executable app, testdisk_win.exe, you can also not create a log, and give No Log, at that point, you will see the drives in the PC, including those connected to USB. Be very careful not to touch C:\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\, scroll and click on the offending drive and give ok, with enter, and you will see the partition options, choose the right one and give ok, you will see the command options: Analyse, Advanced, Geometry, Options, MBR Code, Delete and Quit. You can give Analyse and see what it brings up, just to be sure. Don't touch Delete or you'll shave the partition to zero at logical level and don't touch Geometry or you'll change the partition limits depending on the data you previously entered there. You should go with MBR Code, so testdisk will rebuild the first sector and allow you to start logical disk reconnaissance, which you can't do now, unless you only see it as a physically connected drive, if I understand your problem correctly. When it's done, give Quit, close the Exe, eject the disk, or, better yet, restart the PC and see, if, at the WIN prompt, you hear the dong and see it on computer resources. Sometimes it is necessary to repeat the operation 2/3 times because the disks, sometimes, are stubborn."

Of course, this procedure, if it works, will give you the broken HDD back readable, it doesn't do like Photorec, it doesn't clone anything to another HDD, and it had to be done first, I think. Hi.

If backup is paramount, clone your drive and only work on the clone. That way you can start over at any time.

This would be my recommendation in ALL cases where data loss cannot be tolerated (and a professional service too expensive).

Please be precise! I don't get it if you have one or three broken drives.

I don't understand that sentence at all. If English is not your mother tongue write shorter sentences and end them with a point symbol "." .

Where is it now? There could be a technical issue with your disk.

You should have selected a recovery folder. I assume your icons appear in this folder, because this is where Photorec is writing recovery results. Some pictures may contain preview information. Photorec may not see that this information is embedded into a bigger one, the picture in its full resolution, p.e.

seeing the stalemate I stopped the procedure.

You probably never ran in"dos mode". Testdisk runs within a command prompt window. Maybe "testdik" does something different.

You can either contact a profesional recovery service or duplicate your drive on your own as shown in the manual and continue working on the duplicate.

I would like to clarify the issue related to the 3 hard disks of the same type, always of the 3 tb toshiba, the problem arose when the old sata usb dock station broke and when I first inserted the
first two hard drives into the double slot of the new dock station disk and then the third.
in those operations the hard disks were never detected in the windows resources and since 2016 I have not used them anymore until
I bought a third dock station and I decided to recover the contents of the three hard disks one by one

hello everyone, unfortunately with photorec I had to abandon the recovery operations after 15 days, the sw has practically stopped at 29% with a very slow recovery of 2/3 files a day even if the reading of the sectors occurred continuously, I abandoned because in these particular conditions it would have taken several months if not years ...: cry:
the thing that left me very skeptical is how the program creates hundreds of thousands of very small files of very small previews such as a stamp having dimensions 160x120 pixels and weighing less than 10mb in many cases, probably this continuous creation of files makes it unusable, but I don't know the logic behind it ... surely there will be a sense, but it's not clear to me?
I managed to recover all the files with a paid tools after 24 hours of in-depth analysis, but to be fair I will not mention the name.
now that I was able to recover the files, I would like to be able to try to restore the compromised hard disk directly with testdisk as an expert user of an Italian forum had suggested to me, how should I proceed?
there is a tutorial that explains me how to do it ?? :?:
thank you so much greetings avchd

To ensure that you really won't get a response, please post in aramaic language.

Thank you!
