Hello, my secondary internal hard drive stopped working suddenly today. I was able to grab all the files I needed from the harddrive without much difficulty but when I tried to reboot Windows to run chkdsk it could no longer recognise the drive. I've been getting the "Can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged." error on the Drive from Quick Search>List files, although it does at least recognize the one partition of the drive. Based on internet research I figured the next thing to do was run Rebuild BS (both the Boot Sector and Backup boot sector were OK, but it still says "A valid NTFS Boot sector must be present in order to access any data; even if the partition is not bootable"). I left it running for a few hours, but it did not seem to make any difference. I've attached the log here;

TestDisk exited normally.
Is there anything else I can do to try and salvage the drive? PhotoRec grabbed a lot of stuff after the reboot so perhaps it isn't entirely a lost cause. Based on the end of the log it might seem like the right idea is to run Repair MFT but I'm not quite confident enough in that assumption to know for sure.

Apart from running Photorec you can run any commercial recovery software.
I can't find the following message in the source coude:
"Failed to startup volume: Input/output error."
It could either mean physical dammage or maybe caused by trying to access a sector number beyond the disk boundaries I think.
To learn about possible physical dammage which would be a reason to duplicate the drive as described in the manual you would run smartmontools:

I finally got around to running smartmontools with the drive, I'm not entirely sure how to read it although I'm guessing the presence of Pre-fail attributes means that something has gone kaputt in there. This is the log

I can't find any indication of your drive failing within this smartmontools log file.

I would start running deep search to see if there are readable partitions.
Instead of of playing around with a disk that contains data that needs to be recovered I would duplicate it and play with the duplicate.
