Accidentally formatted my ext2fs partition

Hello,
My Linux data partition (/dev/sda6, ext2) was accidentally formatted with an ext2 file system.
Using TestDisk I am currently creating an image of the partition.
Do I have any hope of restoring the old file system and if so, how?
(Sorry, this might be in the forum somewhere but so far I can find only information about recovering partition tables or undeleting files. In this case I want to recover the filesystem on a single partition.)
Thank you,
Joris
