RAW HDD Quick Search Hang

#1 Post by Statix »

Hi, I am new to TestDisk and was hoping someone would be able to help me out here.
The problem I am having is that my 1TB external hard drive is recognized as RAW and my laptop keeps asking me to format the drive. What I hope to do is rescue all of the files on this drive, which from reading the other threads/ posts, many have been able to accomplish. I follow the steps exactly but when i hit quick search it shows it at 100% but just hangs with no freezes or errors. Here are the imgs of the steps I am taking if they help.

Thank you very much in advance for any advice/ help you can provide!

From here I can't even stop the search and it continues to hang.

Strange behavior?
There is not even a read error, so that testdisk might hang?
I'll test it, to see, can I duplicate your problem?

In your case, it looks like your partition is in your partition table.
That's why you can try a boot sector diagnose using the menu "Advanced / Boot"
Please upload a screen shot.
If the menu "List" is available, please have a try to list your data.
If the menu List is not available, please run Rebuild BS.
If it was successful, you should see the menu List and have a try to list your data.
If you were able to list your data, please let me know!
Further infos will follow.
Probably it would be a good idea to copy/backup your data first.
