Data in usb got converted into shell dll file

#1 Post by tushar »

Hi users, I used testdisk utility to recover the FAT partition but I guess I have missed out something.
I am not expert in these cases but all I know is I donot want to loose that data.
Details of what has happened are:
1. It is my 2 GB microSD memory card.
2. Once I connected it to my windows 7 running laptop, it suddenly shown me the message that "This device is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"
3. I cancelled the dialog box and checked in disk management and it showed the file system got converted to RAW.
4. I googled for the problem and gone through this site and the utility.
5. This utility shown some command prompt-like window and I performed two operations - Rebulid MBR and Rebuild FAT [or something like that].
6. After completing this tasks I checked that card was accessible but all the data in it is converted into one Shell dll file.
7. And I just want my data back, so requesting everyone that please do something.

[Note: I am unable to copy that dll file. It is showing the size 1.8 GB exactly equal to data available in my memory card. ]
Thanking u in advance.

Using Repair FAT, at the Button of the screen, there should be a message like:
very dangerous?
Did you use rebuild bs and did you write your boot sector?

Would it be possible to upload a screen from TestDisk / Advanced?

Further info will follow.

Clicking on rebuild bs doesn't harm at all.
But if you're unsure you shouldn't write any boot sector using write.
If you ran Repair FAT did you cofirm with y (for yes) to have a try to repair your file system?

To judge your current situation I'd need more info.
Can your repeat your diagnose without write anything or to use write in testdisk and do not use repair FAT.
It's only intended in conjunction with chkdsk to have a try to repair a file system.
But not for data recovery purposes.

Please repeat a diagnsoe, running testdisk / Analyse / Quick Search and Deeper Search.
If nothing is found, you can also try to run a diagnose using partition table type None instead of Intel.
You'll find it right after you selected your sd card in testdisk.
TestDisk logs each step what you do.
In your testdisk folder you'll find your testdisk.log file.
You can also copy and paste the content of your testdisk.log into your next post.
