File System died following install of Linux with Vista

#1 Post by sam1984 »

Hi everyone,

I'm a novice at hard drives, and recently tried to install Linux in a dual boot arrangement with Windows Vista. The install seemed to go fine, Linux works, but I could no longer boot into Windows. I've tried various methods to try and fix the boot system, which may have made it worse. Now taking that disk out and plugging it in with a USB adaptor to my laptop I have run testdisk.
The results are just crazy! Loads of partitions to pick from and I don't know where to go from here. Here's the log file of me doing a scan and deep scan. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Sam

till this day I have no resolve
I'd visited Ubuntu forum and I read every think and apply their prescriptions to my hard sick disk ,
and here we are < no solution .
now i am trying to save some files and pictures after those experts of Linux destroy any possible chance to
recover bad sectors which made by Linux overwriting file sys , as computer tech store told me wile he returned back the hard disk to me , saying : sorry no one can fix it !

Windows Vista uses something called BCD to boot.
This website offers a commercial as well as a free (limited) version of a BCD manager
called Easy BCD:

http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/

As you can see, in that page, there is a warning that Easy BCD cannot fix a computer that does not boot.
But they offer a download of a CD image, for you to burn and create EasyRE to fix it.
To burn the image you could use ImgBurn, Nero or any other programme of your choice.

You will have to return your HDD to its original place, and then boot the PC with your copy of
EasyRE CD in the tray.

May be you could do a bit more research about the problem in this place (one of many):

http://www.vistax64.com/

It is a forum about Windows Vista.

If your data is important clone your HDD, before trying to fix it.
Alternatively, if you can list your files with TestDisk, copy them to anoher HDD.

Lets hope this is of help.

Best of luck
