Does TestDisk stalls? How long does it takes?

Hi,

I've been running a Rebuilt BS for the past 36 hrs for an external VERBATIM 2TB drive... the search mft has't move from 625344512/3907024002 for the last 12-18 hrs... is it normal to take this long? is there a chance TestDisk is not working anymore? ...

I don't know if this is related but my skype can't connect - only in the PC where I'm running it.

Thanks,
Carlos M.

It's probably too long.
Would it be possible to check your disk using crystal disk info?
http://crystalmark.info/software/Crysta ... dex-e.html
It's only a diagnose, until yet I can't judge your situation.
Normally Rebuild BS takes only few minutes, except if no file system or MFT is found testdisk searches the wohle partition.
But it shoudn't stall and keep searching.

I have cancelled TestDisk and run CrystalDiskInfo.. it says Heatlth Status = BAD

First row reads

(Red Circle) ID=1 Read Error Rate, Current =1, Worst =1, Thershold = 51, Raw Values =00000000B5B3

All the other data was blue.

Thanks,

You can contact a data recovery company or try to recover your data yourself: clone your damaged disk to a new empty one using gnu ddrescue as described in
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Damaged_Hard_Disk
Once it's done, use TestDisk on the clone.

I have a problem similar to "chmm97", where the Rebilt BS take hours.

TestDisk cannot read either Boot Sector or BackUp Boot sector: Says they are identical and with status BAD.

I tried using Crystal Disk, but it does not even find the HDD with damaged Boot Sector. However, my computer finds the HDD with damaged Boot Sector.

Hey, I have found that if you click anywhere in the window and leave a white rectangle "space' it may pause the operation. Always click on the title bar or if another window, make sure you don't leave a space marker and you should be fine. I discovered that the hard way Wednesday night/Thursday morning. And with everything, if I'm mistaken, it's an unintentional error and not meant as a derogatory remark.
