1TB NTFS Drive

#1 Post by Agret » 05 Jan 2014, 13:22

So I have a SATA hotswap dock built into my case, I put in my 1TB drive and it had the wrong drive letter. No big deal, removed the USB device that was taking its normal drive letter and went into diskpart and selected the volume then went to assign it to the normal letter it uses. After diskpart removed the volume letter it failed to give it the new letter so I told windows to safely remove the drive, it gave me the usual disk is in use error but I think this is impossible how can disk be in use when it is not even mounted as a volume? I removed it from dock and re-inserted into my PC and now it just comes up as a 931GB partition and I just get weird errors when I try and mount it.

Code: Select all

Disk Management
The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer.

Code: Select all

DISKPART> select disk 2

Disk 2 is now the selected disk.

DISKPART> list partition

  Partition ###  Type              Size     Offset
  -------------  ----------------  -------  -------
* Partition 1    Primary            931 GB      0 B

DISKPART> select partition 1

There is no partition selected.

DISKPART> assign letter=F:

There is no volume specified.
Please select a volume and try again.

Here is what comes up in testdisk:

Code: Select all
