Deep search more than 100%

I have a WD 3TB external drive that has failed and says it wants to be formatted. I don't really know what I'm doing with testdisk but anyway I stumbled into Deep Search which is analyzing a cylinder. After two days it says 130%. Should it have stopped at 100% and should I just press "stop"?

Please stop Deeper Search.
The first thing to do is, have a look into your disk management console and check how your disk is listed.
Does your disk appears as Basic or GPT.
Intel-MBR (Basic) only supports disks up to 2.2 TB.
Disks larger than 2.2 TB should use GPT.
Do you know how your disk was partionned before?

I have stopped the Deep search.

Disk management shows the following:

Disk: Disk 1
Type: Basic
Status: Online
Partition Style: Master Boot Record (MBR)
Capacity: 2861556
Unallocated Space: 1MB
Reserved Space: 0MB

I have no idea how it was partitioned. After I bought it I just plugged it in and starting using it. I didn't do anything special.

Thanks for your help

Unallocated Space: 1MB
Reserved Space: 0MB
1 MB Unallocated looks strange.
Should be rather your whole space.
Would it be possible to upload a screen from your disk management console?

A disk management console would look like this;
http://forum.cgsecurity.org/phpBB3/down ... php?id=303
You can get to, if you right click on my computer and in the context menu choose manage.
Probably you have to confirm admin rights and you see your console included all snap ins.
From there you can choose disk management.
Anothe way would be, go to Start.
Write in search programs and files;
diskmgmt.msc
You uploaded a screen from your drive.
Bit it would be more precise to select your disk.
Would it be possible to upload a screen in TestDisk, where you selected your disk?
