Unable to open TestDisk after download and extracting

#1 Post by fdm2000 »

I apologize if I am not in the correct forum venue - I could not find a general discussion forum.

I am new to the forum and to TestDisk. I have attempted to open the extracted 6.14 and the 7 apps and with both I am getting alternating error messages that iconv.dll and/or cygwin1.dll are missing. I am running Win 7 Professional and have tried installing both the Win version and the win 64 bit version in both 6.14 and beta 7 with the same error results.

Anyone know why this is occurring and if it is possible for me to open and use either of the above versions?

Extract all the files and you will not have the problem...

Thanks for the response and suggestion - I have installed the program 3 times and extracted the files but still getting the error messages. Apparently something is corrupting the downloads?

I downloaded the newest version testdisk 7 and tried to reproduce your problem, but everything worked right.
Something to try would be, for extracting files, you can use 7zip and right click testdisk_win.exe or photorec_win.exe and run as administrator.
Disabling of antivirus could help too?

Thanks to cgrenier and Fiona - I reinstalled after inactivating my antivirus app and I now have TestDisk up and running.
