Menu MBRCode MBR command how and when to use?

I have had success using testdisk to see that both my boot and boot backups match and are bad. My file system is NTFS.
I am trying to rebuild the file system on an external hard drive. Happily I see my important files are intact on the external usb drive using test disk.
It looks like my next step would be to use the advanced MBR code Write Testdisk MBR, but I am unsure about what this does.
As stated I want to use an external drive whose file system was "messed up" by not safely ejecting the USB device (my bad)
this is not a drive that i need to boot up an OS with, but rather a device I want my OS (Windows 7 to recognize) can writing testdisk MBR code help me to achieve this?
