Re: USB stick unreadable

Well I just have the same problem with a Kingston flash drive 16GB. I followed Fiona's instructions and rebuilt the boot sector in FAT32. So I could list my files but just saw their name, because when I try to enter a folder it shows:
No file found, filesystem may be damaged.

Why?
Note that the flash drive is brand-new and I was just charging files when it stopped to work..

Would it be possible to copy and paste the content of your testdisk diagnose into your next post?

Analysis showed: "Partition sector doesn't have the end mark 0xAA55"

I'd need more info?
Does Analyse display any partition?
Also what's displayed at Disk?

No partition is displayed, quick or deep search is unable to recognize any partition.

Can you try to scan your USB thumb running partition table type None?
Please run Quick and Deeper Search.
If any partition would be found, please mark it and press p to have a try to list your files.
Reason is, almost no USB thumb is Intel-MBR standard.

Please let me know, did you find any partition and have you been able to list your files?
Please copy and paste the content of your testdisk.log into your next post.

Thanks for your reply Fiona, but as I said I already got the list of my files and folders after selecting "None" at type partition. The problem is that i cannot recover file inside folders, because it shows "No file found, filesystem may be damaged." So there were files that could be recovered, but they were outside folders... files inside any folders are not present after the quick/deep search. I hope I have been clear.

Did you run partition table type None and the menu Advanced?
Under partition table type None and Advanced, you have always an unknown partition!
Using type you can add another partition type like FAT32.
But if it's not correct, you'll achieve such results like file system is damaged and it might be also possible that instead of data only garbage is listed.
That's why I meant did you run Quick and Deeper Search using partition table type None?

Yeah that's just what I did, i added a FAT32 partition and files and folders have been listed. However, I repeat, files in folders could not be recovered when I tried to enter any folder ("No file found, filesystem may be damaged.")

Anyway, my purpose was not as much to recover files (I had a copy of them), rather to make the pendrive readable again and I thought it was possible somehow, but no way. Furthermore I think the pendrive is faulty-manufactured.

You can add a partition manually and try to write it into the partition table.
I'd need the complete info described at Disk!
Especially the CHS values.
