Incorrect partitions

#1 Post by Shadow85 »

I recently added a new Seagate 2.0TB drive to my computer, running Linux Mint 17.2. I installed the drive with no issues - formatted as NTFS, etc. I had used it to quickly backup data from a much older 160GB external that was failing - I was trying to save a lot of older college coursework that I'd preferred to keep. It seemed to be working just fine. I'd even saved a few other things to it. However, after restarting earlier today, the drive shows several partitions instead of the single partition I originally set it up as, and I can no longer access the data on disk or mount it. I tried testdisk without much luck, but this might just be because I'm unfamiliar with the application. I also tried moving it over to my Windows PC, with pretty much the same result - Disk manager seeks the disk, with partitioned space, but I'm still unable to access the data on the drive. I'm still unsure how in the world it now thinks there are multiple partitions, and I'm stumped as to how to recover from here.
