USB drive has wrong size - recovered files are corrupt

#1 Post by mboe »

I had an old 256Mb (yes megabyte!) USB drive that I recovered some files from. I then transferred them to a 2Gb USB drive. The next time I plugged this drive into my pc it showed up as a 128Mb drive! Using test disk I can see and recover the files but then when I try to access them Windows reports they are corrupt. Can anyone help me figure out how to recover these files or are they gone forever? Thanks for any help in advance!

Deleted files are listed in red. Press 'h' to hide deleted files.
If your files are still listed, copy them.
If it still doesn't work, try PhotoRec.

Thanks for the reply. I guess i forgot to mention that the files were accidentally deleted from this usb as well. I can recovery the files using TestDisk or PhotoRec and all looks good until I try to open them. Windows reports the files are corrupt. I think this is due to the fact the the USB drive is really a 2Gb drive but it only shows as a 128Mb. Is there a way to correct the file system so that it shows up as a 2Gb drive? Thanks!
