win 10 won't boot

...Friend's Windows 10 won't boot... Said they were on pinterest and it crashed? They're pretty dumb about computers. Maybe I am too...
I may have messed it up with testdisk. I tried stuff that I didn't understand.
I've been working on a 1000 GB disk. I did a million partition table writes to its five partitions. Unfortunately, I just used [ Create ] logging and only have two or three logs.
I think the first time I ran testDisk it suggested partition type [None ], and I selected [Intel ].
Now it suggests [EFI GPT ], and when I select that and [Analyse ] > [Quick Search], it doesn't seem to complete.
Selecting [Intel ] > {Analyse ] > [Quick Search] completes.
I tried making each of the five partitions "*=Primary bootable" and the remaining P=Primary, except one which only accepted D=Deleted. None of these resulted in a boot. One or two of them give my the Cyberlink Recovery something and suggest backing up files.
I can see Users and Documents and stuff, so I'ma back that stuff up now.
Booting to a Windows 10 install disk > Troubleshoot doesn't work. I received various errors... I tried all the troubleshoots after each partition table write.
Repair or backup/format ?
