Testdisk on broken NTFS HDD - hangs when Listing files
Posted: 10 Mar 2018, 21:42
I ran "ntfsfix" on my HDD and I got the following message:
Mounting volume... NTFS signature is missing.
Failed to startup volume: invalid argument
NTFS signature missing
Trying the alternate boot sector
Unrecoverable error
Volume is corrupt. You should run chkdsk.
Someone recommended testdisk so I downloaded testdisk-7.1-WIP. I analysed the drive and got the following partitions:
P MS Data [Storage]
D MS Data [ETC]
D MS Data []
D MS Data [Trackers]
[Storage] and [Trackers] are two partitions I know I had. I do not know about the unnamed one or [Trackers] partition. When I press "P" to list files, testdisk completely hangs and freezes up. Any suggestions on what I can do?
