How do I repair my filesystem on my 2TB Hard drive with a truecrypt container on it?

#1 Post by HarveySpecter »

I took out my harddrive (WD 2TB) out of an external casing and put it into an other via usb reading sata docking station which changed something so Windows asks me to format the disk. I got no real experience and knowledge about recovering data from disks unfortunatly and I am not getting any useful information from other persons trys to recover data on other forums and sites.

I got a big truecrypt container on the harddrive which nearly takes all space execpt a little portion where i had a truecrypt.exe laying so i could mount my disk on other systems too. My goal is to restore the disks file system or atleast get this truecrypt container from the disk.
The disk should be NTFS filesystem as I formated it that way and it should only contain 1 partition because I never made any partitions on the hard drive.
When I connected the harddrive for the first time when it started to say that I should formate was I prompted to choose when opening the disk utilitys if i wanted to convert to MBR or GPT where i chose too use GPT.

I now tried TestDisk and It recomands me to choose GPT but is that right? Can someone guide me trough this repair part and help me restore my data? Funny thing was that I took the harddisk out of the original casing to make it to a Backup disk... kinda failed that part :/

The disk is shown to be "RAW" in the windows Disk Management Tool now. This is as narrow as I can describe my problem as my knowdlege allows me to.

I'll attach a crystaldiskinfo picture aswell.

Please provide a copy/paste of the testdisk.log file content.

Partition table type (auto): EFI GPT

TestDisk exited normally.

It's drive the drive "Disk /dev/sdb - 2000 GB / 1863 GiB" which hasn't a drive letter and is RAW.
I didn't proceed and, as the log stats, quit before choosing which filesystem i had because of me not knowing which to choose.
