TestDisk stalls at 99%, after working previously

So I'm trying to use TestDisk/PhotoRec to recover some files from a RAW (NTFS) drive. I got to the point where I was able to read the files and directories on the drive inside TestDisk, but when I tried to copy them I realized there was no way to change which drive they were going to be copied to.

After some googling I found someone recommended just moving TestDisk to the drive you want to copy to.

So I closed all the way out of TestDisk, and moved the TestDisk folder to my external drive.

But now it won't work. When I analyse the drive now it's stuck forever at 99%.

Your disk health may be degrading. It may be best to clone your disk to a new empty one using ddrescue. (see https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf )
Once it's done, remove the damaged disk and try to access your data from the clone.

Thanks for the advice, however I don't have a spare drive large enough to do that.

However, I was able to work around this problem-- I didn't realize you could bypass the the Analyse step and go straight to the file list by using the Advanced option in the menu and going to List.

So I've been able to copy some of the folders, but now I have another question:

When TestDisk fails to copy a file, is there any way of knowing which file failed?

This information should be in the testdisk.log file. When you started TestDisk, it asked you if you wanted to create it.
