Win10 disk not readable anymore

#1 Post by mada »

Hey,
possibly the 1000th time that this question pops up, but I can't get it to work...

After fiddling around with dualboot, changing parameters in the BIOS and so on I finally managed to get my Win 10 System to not work any more. The Disc appears in the BIOS but it won't boot from there any more.
First step was to try the Win10 USB repair, at some point a guide required to
"c:\Windows /l de-de /s B: /f ALL"
but this didn't work because I cannot access/read the drive anymore.

Then I found diskpart.
EFI/GPT was found on the disc, here's the first Output

Code: Select all

Disk /dev/sdb - 128 GB / 119 GiB - CHS 15566 255 63
Current partition structure:
Partition Start End Size in sectors
Bad GPT partition entries, invalid checksum.
Trying alternate GPT

after the scan it looks like this

                                                                                                                        The harddisk (128 GB / 119 GiB) seems too small! (< 253 GB / 236 GiB)
Check the harddisk size: HD jumper settings, BIOS detection...
The following partition can't be recovered:

Use Left/Right Arrow keys to CHANGE partition characteristics:

     Enter: to continue
NTFS, blocksize=4096, 314 MB / 300 MiB
Now I'm confused on how to continue...

I don't Need the disk to be bootable, I just need access to the data in order to secure some important files.

Help would be much appreciated!

Thank you
Mark

You should set the same partition layout than displayed on the first screen :
P Windows Recovery Env 2048 616447 614400 [Basic data partition]
P EFI System 616448 821247 204800 [EFI system partition]
P MS Reserved 821248 1083391 262144 [Microsoft reserved partition]
P MS Data 1083392 246614878 245531487 [Basic data partition]
P Windows Recovery Env 246616064 248223743 1607680
P Windows Recovery Env 249147392 250068991 921600
Set the other partitions as D(eleted). Use 'a' to manually add a partition if necessary, 't' to change the partition type.
On next screen, choose Write, confirm, Quit and restart your computer.

Hello cgrenier,

first, thanks for your great tool! And again, thank you for the answer.

the "D"elete option scared me off so I wanted to be 100% sure... nevertheless, I tried messing around with this further on and now the situation has changed. As I could see the data with another tool called "Minitool Partition Wizard" my hope grew, but I screwed it up I think and now the disc is displayed as "raw". I turned the computer off otherwise I would've thrown it out of the window....

I will provide another screenshot this evening, hopefully there is still hope...

just to give an update: I was able to recover the files from the disk without having to repair the filesystem, so I just formatted the disk afterwards ;)

Thanks though for the tool and the help!
