Ok now attempting to run scan again from laptop but this time the destination folder has been created on the laptop itself instead of the HD that I am scanning, see what happens this time

Right it shot up to 53% and now seems to be stuck there again so its obviously not location of destination file, I believe it is when it gets to a certain photo/s pigeons flying in the sky that it sticks. What should I do now, how do I get around it sticking because of that certain photo?

Do not choose to write the files to the same partition they were stored on, otherwise PhotoRec may recover the same files over and over.
