Photorec stops at a sector jumps back, stops etc

#1 Post by gebruikersnaam »

Hi,

I'm trying to recover deleted jpg files.
QPhotorec reads 16529xxxxx/45559xxxxx
Minutes later it reads 16514xxxxx/45559xxxxx
It seems to have trouble overcoming the limit of 36-37% of the 2.12 TB partition from my 4TB HDD
How can I make it continue.

Plus that it doesn't ask to continue where it was stopped but it restarts from scratch every time it is started.

Here is some photorec.ses content

Which version of Photorec do you use?
Have you changed the standard settings?

Version 7.2-WIP.win64, selecting just jpg and png.

Here is a link where you can see the jump happening in the very last split second of the video.

Where is qphotorec_win.exe located?
Do you start that from a USB stick?
When restarting Qphotorec_win.exe does photorec.ses exist?
How long did it take to arrive at 36%?
How long does it stay there?

The HDD is partitioned as D:, E: and F:
Lost data are on E:
QPhotoRec is started from F:\install\photo recovery\testdisk-7.2-WIP
Data is saved on an attached Seagate Expansion Drive
To get at 36% from 2.2T partition takes about 12 hours?
It can stay at that jump and drop position for days. (tested and confirmed, no further progress)

When it looks like Photorec or Qphotorec is ignoring its own files (Photorec.ses) something is very rotten!
That's why I asked:
When restarting Qphotorec_win.exe does photorec.ses exist?
I guess that it must be very difficult to run through my list of questions and take care of it so that every question is answered.
Do I expect too much from forum users?
Precision diagnostic - if possible at all - is only possible based on precision information.
I have a feeling that many posters do not take their posting seriously ignoring that there is somebody around who is answering their questions for free.

Sorry that I didn't answer all questions.
The ses file resides in the same subdirectory as the exe file.

Additional information:
- QPhotoRec wants to start as if no ses file exists.
- PhotoRec does ask to continue and the next question it asks is to start it as Administrator.

Please backup the photorec.ses file to some other location.
If you restart QPhotorec now, will you be asked to continue the old session?

Thanks for helping.
I have another video of the failure: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fpy1teuvspn7h ... 2.mp4?dl=0
It jumpes back around 165811xxxxx and a bit more

qphotorec_win.exe doesn't notice the existence of the ses file
photorec_win.exe , when started as administrator displays the following screen.

I wonder, is it possible to make it start somewhere at sector 166000xxxxx ?

What's your operating system?
Do you run it in a virtualized environment?

As both versions of Photorec use the ses file
viewtopic.php?p=24705#p24705
you have a problem with your setup.

Please provide a detailed report about the hardware and software used.

Use Photorec with administrative rights.
Recognition of the ses file is mandatory for your purpose.

Here is a hint how to set the starting sector for Photorec:
