can't find internal mac hard drive

#1 Post by stray359 »

Hi,

I am admittedly very unfamiliar with macs and data recovery, but am hoping to get some precious personal files from my mac. I have one internal hard drive with a single partition in the HFS+ format. So, from what I gather, I need to use PhotoRec instead of TestDisk. However, when I simply double click the PhotoRec icon, no hard drives show up in the terminal. I receive a message that says I need to run the program as the root user. So I navigate to the TestDisk folder and sudo ./photorec. After I enter my password, the program doesn't load and nothing appears to happen (see below). Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing incorrectly?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Disconnect your USB card reader, external disks... and check if you still have the problem.
If you start PhotoRec, does it work better if you select [Sudo] in the menu ?
