Error Reading Sector

Hello everyone.
I'm trying to recover files (99% are pics) from my gf's external hd.
She isn't sure what happened to it, but apparently it started making funny noises (platters slightly touching while spinning?), and it was plugged out without properly unmounting it first. Now, the noises are gone, but windows wants to format it.
I tried testdisk, to no avail, now I'm trying photorec, but this is what I get:

During testdisk analyzing process, it started very slow with errors for the first 10ish sectors or so, then went at normal speed. Do you think that I should just wait longer in photorec?
Thanks everyone, she has some very important pics on this drive, hopefully I'll be able to recover them...
Roberto

There are probably bad sectors. If you still have no results, the best is to clone the harddisk to a new empty one using ddrescue as described in http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Damaged_Hard_Disk
Once it's done, try to repair the clone with TestDisk.

Hi...were you able to recover all the files from your GF hard disk using the clone disk?
Please let me know.

I am exactly in same situation as yours and the symptoms too are same.

I have this external hard drive and testdisk is showing wrong size for it too.

Don't know how to proceed.

any help appreciated.

also my hard disk has all my 5 years memories with my wife...and if i don't get this recovered...i could be divorced too :)

save me please

If the reported disk capacity is wrong, there may be a more serious hardware problem. You may want to contact a data recovery company.
