When using testdisk/photorec and you copy recovered files to a flash drive or external drive, if you recopy everything to double check that you got everything that you wanted, does it overwrite the original, make a duplicate or check to see if they are the same and if they are the same does it just skip and move to the next file?

If you use TestDisk to copy files or PhotoRec to recover files, the source isn't modified.

The reply does not answer the question asked, which I would like the answer to. Here's the scenario:

Using testdisk on Xubuntu 12.10 64-bit to try to copy files from a Windows Vista partition on a failing Seagate HDD.

1. Navigate to a folder I want to copy, press c, select destination.

2. Some files are copied but not all before getting read errors.

3. Shut down, let disk cool down, try again.

The question is - if I copy the same folder as before to the same destination, what does testdisk do if a file being copied was successfully copied the first time and already exists in the destination? Ignore, overwrite, make duplicate, prompt? I don't think the poster was asking about what happens to the source file, nor am I.
