Recovering files after writing partition table

#1 Post by svdavison »

Long story short, I was trying to format an SD card for raspberry pi and I accidentally did my drive instead of the card. I used testdisk to re write the partition table and I was able to look at my files through testdisk, but it takes a VERY long time to copy my files over (I have a 1TB external that was full). Also, if I use file explorer the drive will not open. It says I need to format the drive before use. Disk Management also says that the disk is RAW.
I'm sure it has been posted a million and one times about how to do this but I was having trouble finding the page that pertained to my specific question:
Can I use testdisk to make my drive viewable with Windows Explorer or am I stuck copying the files over. If I can simply get it working in windows again I wont have to copy the files back and Ill be finished with this.
A push in the right direction would be awesome.

Thanks,
Steve
