photorec across network?

I have a armv5 QNAP NAS which I can't find a version of testdisk/photorec for so I can't do the recovery from that system. I'm wondering if it's possible to run photorec from another PC and recover files from the NAS that way? I've been searching and I read a lot about having a shared drive as the destination for recovered files but not found any mention of running photorec on a remote system.

Second question that might be dumb: If I can run photorec from a remote machine, can I use the windows executable and recover from the ext4 NAS drives? I'd assume not since windows doesn't do ext4.

I don't have a linux box built yet but I was planning on using an older PC to install FREENAS (then at least I have an intel based system and have a lot easier time of things) so I can install debian or something to do the recovery then do FREENAS later.

Windows doesn't but TestDisk.
TestDisk is Linux based on cygwin dll.
To recover from ext4 is possible, because windows partitions (FAT; NTFS) are used as a destination or target to copy files to.
But the reverse not.
Windows executable can't copy files to an ext4-partition.

Actually, no mapped drives are available in the drive list - so I guess it can only work from the machine that has the drives.
