Whole disk recovered - question

#1 Post by joeser »

Hi,

Photorec has recovered lots of files from my external harddisk.

However just to be sure about the following (please see attachment):

I have let Photorec recover the first one option (No Partition........[Whole disk] )

So i hope i dont have to start to recover the second one (HPFS - NTFS)

My guess that choosing the first option (whole disk) would cover the entire hard disk.

Thanks!

Unless the partition table is wrong, it's always better to select the partition to recover from.
This way, PhotoRec can read the blocksize from the filesystem and, if you want, let you recover data from its free space only.
Otherwise PhotoRec will guess the blocksize by searching for the first 10 known file headers and will recover all data, deleted or not.
