/log parameter

#1 Post by NervsOfSteel »

Hi. I want to use the /log parameter but i don't know where to type it in. It dosen't say in the step by step guide.
After i've started PhotoRec i can't find any place to type in text. Where do i do that?
I'm currently using version 6.14 for Windows(7)

I'm not sure for windows version, but in linux 6.14 there's an xml file written in recup_dir.1 with log info. Is it what you are looking for ?

Ahh maybe it is the xml file. It probably is. There is also one in the recup_dir.1 on Windows machines.
In the Step by Step guide it says:
"Forensics users can use the parameter /log to create a log file named photorec.log; it records the location of the files recovered by PhotoRec."
That is why i thought there was another log file.

Thanks!

Current versions of PhotRec have no log anymore.
If you want to log a PhotRec session;
Run your command prompt as administrator.
Go to Start.
Write cmd in search programs and files.
Press both, the Ctrl and Shift-key and press enter.
Confirm to proceed your command prompt as administrator.
Write cd and press space.
Copy the path from your TestDisk folder to the same line.
Write photorec_win.exe /log

My "report.xml" file in dir.1 gives position and size of every file found, I just checked.
