IAB Files

Hi all, please excuse my amateurish and pathetic computer skills. I was directed to this site as a means to assist with a problem I have had with an Iomega backup HD, that I had the misfortune to purchase that uses IAB files.

I have no hardware issues at all. The problem is that once upon a time I backed up my PC hard drive in two backups one in 2006 and 2008. To cut a long story short I want the photos and videos off both versions. I do not want the system configs or other data.

I want to transfer the data on the Iomega straight to a portable HD. So I downloaded the program and started photorec and after staring at the screen for about 10 minutes trying to figure out all the numbers I realised that I was out of my depth.

After I click the photrec exe file it identifies all the drives correctly I can see the iomega and the portable HD. The thing is I don't know what will happen next if I order proceed. Anyone able to advise?

You should restore your files using Iomega Automatic Backup, not using PhotoRec.

Check the files recovered by PhotoRec, they may be your lost files.
How have you lost your files BTW ?

This is not really a lost data issue. The Iomega contains stuff that I simply want back. Once upon a time I got a new hard disk and rather than transfer all the old crap over to the new HD from the Iomega I just got the techie to transfer it to a portable HD. I then transferred all the stuff I wanted to the new HD and deleted the contents of the portable.

In 2010 I had a HD crash lost everything and never bothered to access the stuff on the Iomega figuring I would do it another day. That day has arrived. The original Iomega software is useless for what I want to do. One website suggested I come here... I have not tried recovering anything with PhotoRec...I don't really know what I'm doing which is why I asked the question...
