Recover files from RAW ext 1.5 tb WD hdd

#1 Post by RJL24 »

WIN7 Professional, External WD 1.5TB hdd, containing backup files of all types.

HDD connected via USB on a HP SJ9 desktop 64 bit system, 2 Quad CPU 2.83 ghz 8gb ram.

I think there were about 200GB of active back-up type files, thus about 1.3GB of the drive is empty.

Can not access drive even to format via WINDOWS.

Showing as RAW and inaccessible

I did use Wondershare DATA Recovery to extract files but no file names came associated with the files. So I am deciding to try another way to extract the files and then hopefully reformat the drive.

AM having difficulty understanding TESTDISK.

Partition Start End Size in sectors

Keys A: add partition, L: load backup, Enter: to continue

My options are only A and L, this I do not get option to P that I am reading about.

Pressing L gets a message don't use backup and try to locate partition. How do I do this?

Thank you in advance.

Consider my a newby.

Was fortunate to sort things out, and this software is powerful and useful. All necessary files retrieved.
And found at WD.com a software to format the RAW drive back to usefulness.

Thank you TestDisk. Thank you.
