FYI - I got gpart working now with gparted and just started seeing what it could do. I was using the source file and instead got the binary but had to make it executable, rename it and put it under /usr/bin

It looks like that your file system is damaged.
I assume it's your OS and data partition?
Running Deeper Search would be a try, to find another healthy partition.
Otherwise, datarecovery software might help?
