In another forum there was discussion about using PhotoRec to repair a corrupt file (like a corrupt Excel file). However the layout of PhotoRec does not work well for fixing a file one can actually find. Could an option be added to work on an existing file and make a copy of it so as to not touch the original?

You can use
- TestDisk, Advanced, List and copy the file
- PhotoRec, Search, Whole space instead of [Free]
