Micro SD recovery: PhotoRec doesn't recognize it, Win8 does!

Hello!

Trying to recover a Micro-SD card; I follow the "PhotoRec Step By Step" instructions, but very early on I am unable to continue: PhotoRec only shows the HDD and the optical drive; it doesn't show the damaged SD card. Therefore, I cannot even select the SD and start the recovery process, because it's not there!

Now, I read from http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec page: " PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged "
However, I haven't been able to find anywhere a guide on what to do when the SD is not recognized at all.

Strange enough, Windows 8 does see and report the SD, hence it might not be terminally bad. However, its properties show " 0 GB free of 0 GB ".

I would really appreciate any help; my daughter had many hundreds of vacation and other photos on the SD.

Thanks and regards.

It's actually unusual that your sd card is not displayed?
How is your sd card in your windows disk mamagement console listed?
Is the size of your sd card correct?
Properties of the windows explorer have no significance.
It only displays your logical drives/partitions and almost no info about your disk or sd card.

Fiona, thanks for your very prompt response.

I attach two screenshots:

1) Disk Mgmt Console: My SD card is NOT listed

2) A combo of:
a) Win Explorer display showing icon "Removable Disk (E:),
b) Properties (useless, I agree, but at least it reports that a removable has been inserted)
c) PhotoRec sees the HDD but not the SD Card

Best regards
