Hidden Partitions

I have a Sandisk CLIPP that was formatted with firmware for the Bureau of Prisons (U.S.) so that it hides the music files in a hidden partition. I have used testdisk to create a dd file but when I restore it by changing it to '.dmg' it just brings up an exact copy of the file directory that I see when I open the Sansa directly. That means the music files are still hidden.
I am doing this because I want to wipe the drive of the Sansa and reinstall the original manufacturers firmware. I am following the instructions from this link: http://www.wikihow.com/Unlock-a-Federal ... MP3-Player
In it he says to do a whole disk recovery, is that what I did when I created the dd file?
Is there any other way to see the files on there other than changing the dd to dmg?
Thanks in advance for any help.
