HFS TOC disk recovery

#1 Post by somingwentwrong »

Hi there,

I managed to 'erase' my external hard disk via the mac disk utility, effectively removing the table of contents/TOC for the disk.

I am currently using TestDisk 7.0 to build an image of the files (perfectly preserved on the HFS partition) to a separate hard disk but I'm wondering if this is overkill.

I've tried looking through the options in the program to build a new partition list/TOC but this doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Is there any way to rebuild the TOC or file list of the partition without having to transfer the files to a new disk?

Or should I just wait it out till the new disk image is created and work out what to do from there?

Cheers and great tool!
