Recovering Sage 50 Accounting files

One of my clients has a failing hard drive that contains data files from Sage 50 Accounting (formerly Peachtree.) And, no recent backups. I used DDRESCUE to get some of the data off the drive; now I want to use PhotoRec to find the Sage 50 files. I am not sure what file types to search for. Although I have an option for QuickBooks files, I don't see anything for Peachtree or Sage 50. I think these products use Pervasive for the database system.

Any ideas on how to recover files for this? Thanks in advance.

I need some sample files to check if it's possible to identify Sage files.

I will try to get you some Sage 50 company files. I do not use the program myself, so it could go a while.

Unlike Intuit's QuickBooks, which has a single file for company data, Sage 50 has a folder containing several dozen files that make up the company data.

Turns out the client's most recent backup was acceptable. So, the original problem is resolved.

I was able to get a sample file from Sage Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012. The data files look similar to the Sage 50 program I was working with earlier; it's just an older version.

A zip folder named "SagePeachtree2012TestCompany.zip" is available at this file share link:

https://www.hightail.com/download/bXBZb ... Z2xqQTlVag

The zip folder is about 6MB and contains a folder named "testcompa". It was located at "C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company\testcompa\" and contains about 120 files containing data for a Peachtree company I created named "Test Company". There is another file named "TestCompany-Backup-2015-07-11.ptb" which is a backup file created by Peachtree.

TestCompany-Backup-2015-07-11.ptb is recovered as a .zip, doc and rpt as .doc.
The .dat or .ddf files can be recovered by creating a signature file photorec.sig with

Code: Select all

dat 0 0x46 0x43 0x00 0x00 0x43 0x00
