CR2 File recovery

I was transferring a folder containing folders of .CR2 images (canon 7d) from my hard disk (SSD mac OS X 10.10) to a portable hard drive.
During the transfer, 2 folders containing 8GB of images vanished!
Using PhotoRec (after trying many other softwares) the files were located and recovered.
However the images will not open - the size of files seems correct but they will not open.
Any suggestions on how to open these (presumably) corrupted files?
