Only recovering one file a day from 2TB

After 3 false starts where a few hundred files were recovered successfully but space ran out (I was recovering to a smaller disk), my current recovery pass has been running for >120h and has retrieved 9 files and is on the first pass. That's about 1 a day.

Photorec seems to be retrieving a very large archive (odt, zip, whatever) which approaches the size of the partition I am recovering (~1.9TB) and then pulls just one file from that archive before over starting again. So far, the files it has retrieved are mainly very old Windows zip files from apps I used to run under Wine.

I am using 6.14 on Ubuntu, recovering a 2TB HD with bad sectors to a 3TB HD. The 2TB disk was probably 75% full.

Is this expected behaviour? At this rate, it will take many weeks, it seems, before I can recover fully. Do you think I should abandon this recovery run or be patient?

Merci bien!

Photorec has been running for 1 week now. It has retrieved only 13 files. Is this expected behaviour?

Is there any value (or problem) with abandoning this run and trying again with the latest version of Photorec?

Thanks in advance for advice

update: I am getting another fresh HD to image this bad HD (it's probably only getting worse and worse). I will then try and recover the partitions with eg TestDisk and if this fails, I'll try Photorec again but with the current WiP version.

Please let us know if you get more files and if the clone operation worked
