Exfat partition accidently formated to ext4

#1 Post by wunderstuermer »

Hello,
I formated my exfat usb drive to ext4 with Gparted. I am not sure wether the drive was previously formatted with Windows 7,GParted or OSX to exfat.

Now I would like to recover my files with testdisk. As I never did that before and the data is critical I need support with a quick HowTo.

You can try TestDisk, Advanced, select the partition, force the type to NTFS (or exFAT if available), Boot and BackupBS.
If it doesn't work, use PhotoRec http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step
