File recovery processing time on a 2tb drive

Hello all, I'm new to the tool, but I'm amazed at what I see. Seriously an excellent diamond in the rough of free tools out there.

I have a question, nothing particularly technical:

I am trying to recover files from a 2tb drive. The drive doesn't have any (known) physical damage, just simply lost the filesystem one day, to the point where windows thought it was RAW, and unix couldn't detect or repair any type of filesystem.

I know that it will differ from drive to drive depending on the number of bad sectors, but has anyone else completed a 2 tb drive recovery? I let it run overnight to let the estimated time stabilize, and it settled on 61,300 hrs, which... is rather long haha

I understand the estimate may be wrong, but does anyone have any real-world values they can share? Trying to decide if I can even keep a computer on for 7 years straight.

Are you using TestDisk or PhotoRec ?
If using PhotoRec, try the version 7.1-WIP, it's faster than previous versions.

I am indeed using Photorec 7.1, I had kicked off a recover and stated looking on the site when I noticed it. Restarted it again under the newer version

It has since increased to about 100,000 hours (11.5 years). I'm thinking I'll just call it, perhaps I'll try the Filesystem repair functionality of testdisk as my final attempt.

Thanks for the reply :)

Unless you are connected via USB 1.0, there is probably a physical problem, the recovery should be faster...
Does Photorec display read error message ?
