Can I recover a partial partition or restart where left off

#1 Post by empulse »

I am using photorec 7.0 (dl yesterday) windows (not 64) under windows 7 to recover files on a 500 GB disk that was accidentally formatted.
It has recovered approx 100,00 files but has been stuck on the same sector with the same estimated remaining time for 20+ hours. The elapsed time is wrong as well, saying 14 hours, but it has actually been running for over 36 hours. The most recently recovered file is not fluctuating in size, there is no error message. It just seems to have stopped.

If I interrupt the program, is there a way to restart it where it left off, or perhaps restart a sector or two higher than where it left off? (i.e. skip the sector it has been stuck on). Could not find anything in the forums addressing this issue.

You should be able to choose Stop inside PhotoRec, Quit.
Download TestDisk & PhotoRec 7.1-WIP. Copy the photores.ses file from your 7.0 directory to the 7.1-WIP directory. Start PhotoRec 7.1-WIP, it should ask you if you want to resume the recovery.
Please tell me if the recovery works correctly now.
